For the first time since starting the full-scale 8K satellite broadcasting, NHK successfully used 8K and 22.2 multichannel sound system in broadcasting athletes competing at the 2020 Summer Olympics and Paralympics in Tokyo. The games were delayed by one year and forced to be held without spectators at venues due to Covid-19. We explain the roles played by 8K ultra high-definition videos as well as the possibilities offered by UHD contents during the events.
